The Council on AI Integration & Institutional Innovation (CAIII) is an interdisciplinary initiative focused on applied AI, future-thinking, and cross-campus innovation.
Mission
To drive UConn’s leadership in applied AI and the reimagining of education and research through interdisciplinary collaboration, strategic foresight, and scalable, future-oriented innovation.
Vision
UConn will become a national model for how universities navigate and shape the AI era—creating inclusive, ethical, and adaptable systems for learning, research, and community engagement in the face of technological and societal transformation.
Core Components
- AI Integration & Innovation Lab – Piloting applications of AI in teaching, advising, curriculum, and institutional operations.
- Futures & Foresight Studio – Scanning emerging trends and scenario planning for UConn’s academic and research future.
- Human-AI Collaboration Hub – Facilitating research and teaching at the intersection of AI, ethics, neurodiversity, and equity.
- Faculty-Led Research Nodes – Supporting interdisciplinary inquiry around applied AI, pedagogy, and policy.
Strategic Value
- Complements core CS/hardware AI efforts with focus on adoption, literacy, equity, and integration.
- Aligns with Board expectations for innovation, adaptability, and future-readiness.
- Leverages existing resources (faculty talent, pilot programs, leadership roles like Director of AI Integration).
